How To Update Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 To Android 5.0.2 Lollipop via SlimLP Unofficial ROM

Its your time to update Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop but with the help of custom ROM. All thanks to the developer mcgi5sr2 who recently shared Android 5.0.2 Lollipop based unofficial SlimLP custom firmware. However, this is very alpha build and all SlimLP features most likely not ported yet but will surely give you many customization. Right now, this is the only way to upgrade your Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop since we yet to have an official Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmware for Galaxy S3 GT-I9300. Its easy to install this custom ROM, all you have to do, install a custom recovery such as CWM recovery or TWRP recovery and then follow below guide.
Few cool Android 5.0.2 Lollipop features are – Material Design, a new lock screen, Lock screen notifications, Hide sensitive content in notifications, battery-saver mode, Priority Mode, Guest Mode, Pin Apps, Ambient Display, Double tap to wake, Trusted Device for Bluetooth and NFC, improved Quick Settings and many more.

This tutorial is only for Galaxy S3 GT-I9300. Don’t try this guide on any other Android device. Also, we (PrimeHowTo) are not responsible for any damage caused due to the instruction given in this page. Try this at your own risk. However, it is very unlikely that your device will be damaged if you follow all the instructions as it is which are mentioned in procedure.
Pre Requisites:
1. It’s advisable to backup your data prior flashing. I recommend app Helium for this purpose, however you can use any other preferred backup app.
2. Make sure your device have enough battery power (at least 50% battery power) to avoid any accidental brick. You can install an app like Battery Notifier BT Free on your Android device to check it easily.
3. You must have USB Driver Installed for Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 in your PC. If you manage to access your phone data after connecting to your computer then you already have USB driver installed. [Download Driver Manually]
4. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled otherwise it’s won’t be possible to transfer file between PC and Galaxy S3 GT-I9300. By default its enabled, so you don’t have to worry. [General Guide]
5. Your device must have latest available custom recovery installed. [General Guide]


Tutorial For TWRP Recovery Users:
  1. Transfer downloaded file to your Android device by connecting to PC. Make sure you copied all files on SD Card (avoid coping within folder). Important: Don’t extract any files.
  2. Disconnect your device from computer and then turn off your Galaxy S3 GT-I9300.
  3. Now, boot into recovery mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Up, Home and Power button together until Samsung logo flash twice and then leave Power button. You should see recovery menu soon.

  4. Create a Backup using TWRP Backup Option.
  5. Perform a Factory Reset (this will delete all apps and their settings and game progress). To do this, Tap on Wipe, then at the bottom of the screen do a Swipe on the ‘Swipe to factory reset‘ option.
  6. Now add zip file for flashing. to do so, tap on Install, then browse to the location where you saved the files and tap on the SlimLP (Alpha Build) Zip file. Then tap on Add More Zips, and add Slim_full_gapps.BETA.5.0.x.build.0.x-434.zip. Now at the bottom of the screen, do a swipe on the Swipe to confirm flash option to begin flashing.
  7. When installation is completed, go back to the main recovery menu and tap on Reboot and then, tap on System to reboot your Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 and boot into Android 5.0.2 Lollipop ROM SlimLP (Alpha Build).
  8. Returning to Previous ROM: To go back to your previous ROM, boot into recovery, select Backup then through Restore option, restore your previous ROM by selecting it from the list.
